About the Police Pension Board

Pursuant to Article 3 of the Illinois Pension Code, the Village of Algonquin is required to establish and administer a police pension fund, for the benefit of its police officers and of their surviving spouses, children, and certain other dependents. The Board of Trustees of the Algonquin Police Pension Fund shall have the exclusive control and management of the Fund.

A five (5) member board of trustees shall administer the pension fund. Two (2) members of the Board shall be appointed by the Village President with the consent of the Village Board of Trustees. Two (2) members shall be elected from among the active participants in the Fund, and one member elected from the beneficiaries of the Fund.  New board members are required to attend 32 hours of initial training within 18 months of joining the board. All members are required to receive 16 hours of continuing education annually. No previous experience is required. A business or other financial background would be helpful.  There is no compensation for being on the board. The fund pays for all required training expenses, including any travel expenses.  The Board meets the last Wednesday of January, April, July, and October at 5:00 p.m. at Ganek Municipal Center, 2200 Harnish Drive, Algonquin.

Residents are encouraged to submit an application to serve on one of the Village’s many Boards and Commissions. Applications can be submitted to the Village Clerk’s Office below.  Appointments are made by the entire Village Board annually or when vacancies occur.
