Citizen’s Participation Guide | Planning & Zoning Commission

The Planning and Zoning Commission is responsible for reviewing matters related to subdivisions, zoning variations, special uses, planned developments and other planning issues, and making recommendations to the Village Board.

The Planning and Zoning Commission consists of a chairman and six members appointed by the Village President. All members are Village of Algonquin residents. The commission meets regularly on the second Monday of each month. Unless otherwise posted, meetings are held in the Village Board Room, 2200 Harnish Drive at 7:30pm.

An agenda of business is prepared for each Planning and Zoning Commission meeting and posted at the Ganek Municipal Center and on the Village’s website at least 48 hours in advance of the meeting.

All citizens are invited to be involved in the public hearing process. All citizens wishing to speak during the public hearing are asked to complete an “Audience Comment Form” and submit to a village staff or commission member prior to the meeting. The Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission will call upon those citizens who have submitted a form during the Public Comment portion of each public hearing.

At the end of the public hearing, the Planning and Zoning Commission makes a recommendation on each zoning matter, which is then forwarded to the Algonquin Village Board of Trustees. The final decision on each zoning matter is made by the Village Board.
