About This Location
Spella Park in Algonquin spans a massive 43 acres and is named after the late Village President Ted Spella. The park features two entrances: one next to the Algonquin Area Public Library on Harnish Drive and another at the intersection of Wintergreen Terrace and Fairway View Drive. The western section includes a playground, pavilion, shoot-around basketball court, and tennis courts, while the eastern section offers easy access to the walking paths that weave through the park. The park is also part of the Woods Creek Watershed, featuring a natural area with rich ecosystems to explore.
The Village of Algonquin received an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant in 2005 from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) to help develop this park facility.
Please note that the park operates from dawn to dusk, and actual opening and closing times may vary slightly based on the time of year.
