About This Location

Ted Spella Community Park, or Spella Park, in Algonquin spans a total of 110 acres, including 14 acres of active park space and 96 acres of natural areas. Named after the late Village President Ted Spella, this expansive park features two entrances—one next to the Algonquin Area Public Library District's Main Branch on Harnish Drive and another at the intersection of Wintergreen Terrace and Fairway View Drive. The active park space includes a playground, pavilion, shoot-around basketball court, and tennis courts, while the eastern section offers access to walking paths that wind through the park. As part of the Woods Creek Watershed, Spella Park also highlights a diverse natural area with rich ecosystems to explore.

The Village of Algonquin received an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant in 2005 from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) to help develop this park facility.

Please note that the park operates from dawn to dusk, and actual opening and closing times may vary slightly based on the time of year.
