Refuse & Recycling (test)

Village of Algonquin refuse, recycling, and yard waste collection services are contracted with Groot. Residents having a refuse, recycling, or yard waste issue should first call Groot 800-244-1977. If the issue is not resolved residents should then contact the Village online or by phone at 847-658-2700.

Need garbage stickers?  During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Groot is offering garbage sticker sales by phone at 800-224-1977 in addition to various retailers located throughout the Algonquin area.

Service Rates

Algonquin has a volume-based refuse rates system called "pay-as-you-throw" that provides economic rewards for reducing waste. Residents are charged for the amount of trash they generate in the same way we get billed for the amount of electricity, gas, and other utilities that we use. That means "the less you throw away, the less you pay." Stickers are available at various local businesses throughout the Algonquin area and are listed online.

The following are the rates effective September 1, 2020, for solid waste services in Algonquin:

90-Gallon Cart (optional)       $19.27/month Contact Groot at 800-244-1977 for service.
Curbside Recycling FREE Free service for Algonquin residential customers. Additional recycle carts available to rent for $2.00 per month. 
Electronic Waste $30.00/trip, + $5.00/item Residents must call Groot directly to schedule a pickup of electronic waste at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled service day. 

Collection Schedule

Algonquin is divided into two zones in which refuse, recycling, and yard waste collection takes place on the same collection day. The Groot collection schedule is available online. All containers must be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day. The following is the holiday schedule for 2021:

 New Year's Day  January 1, 2022  Service delayed by one day for remainder of week.

Note:  Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Columbus Day, and Veteran's Day do not affect the Groot collection schedule. If the holiday falls on a Saturday, service will not be affected unless otherwise noted above.
