Algonquin Public Arts Commission Holding 9th Annual Student Art Exhibit Virtually

The Village of Algonquin is pleased to announce the 9th Annual Student Art Exhibit is live in a virtual format accessible to all. The exhibit is typically held in the spring at the Algonquin Public Library, however, due to COVID-19, the event was postponed this year and instead a virtual platform was created as a safe alternative. There are two interactive ways to view the exhibit – by video or by individual images, both available on the Village’s website at

This exhibit is a project of the Algonquin Public Arts Commission and includes 54 artworks created by students from Algonquin Middle School and Dundee Middle School during the 2019-2020 academic year. Artwork includes paintings, drawings, ceramic work, collages, and others.

Members of the Public Arts Commission juried the artworks and 10 received recognition, including eight Best in Show Award recipients and a tie between two for the top honor of the Richard A. Rehwaldt Memorial Award, honoring the late community arts supporter and former commission member who helped develop the Village’s first Student Art Exhibit in 2012.

The Public Arts Commission is an ad-hoc advisory body to the Village Board and is charged with the purpose and goal of fostering the placement of public art throughout the community consistent with the Algonquin Public Art Master Plan.

The Village of Algonquin would like to thank the students and commission members for their participation in this year’s program.
