Algonquin Village President Signs Declaration of Local Emergency

Algonquin Village President John Schmitt and the Village of Algonquin announce that on March 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m., the Village of Algonquin has formally entered into a Declaration of Local Emergency. Through Proclamation, President John Schmitt has declared that a local disaster emergency exists in the Village of Algonquin due to ongoing Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The Village has been diligent in the mitigation of COVID-19 and has taken active steps to help reduce the risk to Algonquin and its residents. In addition, Governor J.B. Pritzker has decreed a state of emergency for the State of Illinois, McHenry County Board Chairman Jack Franks has proclaimed a disaster emergency for the County of McHenry, and Kane County Board Chairman Chris Lauzen has proclaimed a disaster emergency for the County of Kane. In support of these declarations and in preparation of future mitigation efforts, Village President John Schmitt issued the Proclamation of Local Disaster Emergency for the Village of Algonquin.

The purpose of the Declaration of Local Emergency is to activate the response and recovery aspects of any and all applicable local or interjurisdictional disaster emergency plans, to authorize the furnishing of aid and assistance thereunder, and to bring this emergency to as quick of a conclusion as possible.

As Algonquin continues to takes preventive actions to mitigate the risks associated with COVID-19, Village staff will continue to work with local, state and federal health partners to take all preventative steps available to limit the spread of COVID-19.
