Now Hiring: Cashier / Swim Lesson Instructor

The Village of Algonquin is seeking applicants for the position of Cashier / Swim Lesson Instructor.  This part-time, seasonal position (the season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day) is responsible for cashiering and teaching group and individual lessons.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:  High School Diploma (or in process); CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications; County Food Handling License; Minimum 15 years of age (with work permit).

Skills:  The ability to communicate instructions in a professional and enthusiastic manner. Must have strong interpersonal skills and work well with the public and other staff in-person or on the telephone. Have the ability to establish a positive rapport by using tact and discretion with participants, parents, and staff.  Must display a high degree of emotional maturity while keeping difficult situations in proper perspective.  Individual must know how to swim.

Equipment:  Candidate must be able to operate the following: computer/cash register, printer, PA system, concession equipment, general swimming lesson equipment, defibrillator, telephone, and general office equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Responsible for teaching a pre-determined number of group and/or private swim lessons while emphasizing and maintaining safety during all lessons.
  2. Complete all necessary paperwork and reports including swim lesson forms/progress reports and monthly reports according to Village of Algonquin guidelines.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to work in small and large group settings.
  4. Provide superior customer service through the appropriate use of the tools provided (i.e. telephone, email, publications, etc.).
  5. Report for shift in uniform as assigned or find a substitute as defined by the Village of Algonquin’s adopted policies and procedures.
  6. Perform the job safely and in compliance with Village policies, procedures, work and safety rules, and the employee handbook.
  7. Strictly enforce all general safety rules and improve public and employee knowledge by preventing, confronting, and correcting unsafe behavior.
  8. Maintain a commitment to a safe, clean environment in all areas of the facility.
  9. Attend mandatory in-service, staff meetings, and training sessions.
  10. Follow the rules and regulations of the Village of Algonquin, and the State, Village, and County Health Departments.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor(s).
