The Village of Algonquin, home to approximately 29,700 residents, is nestled in the Fox River Valley in both Kane and McHenry counties and is conveniently located 45 miles from the Chicago Loop.  The community provides residents and businesses an exceptional quality of life with recreational amenities, educational opportunities, and a mixture of numerous restaurants and shopping malls, which offer a variety of leisure time activities.  In addition to providing a friendly and safe community, Algonquin believes in providing residents leisure opportunities involving the great outdoors. The Village employs approximately 185 employees in four major service areas: General Services Administration, Community Development, Police, and Public Works. Each of these departments is further delineated into specific divisions that provide public services.

THE FINE PRINT

  • Lateral entry applicants must possess a current Law Enforcement Officer Certification and have been employed in a full-time law enforcement capacity for a minimum of 18 months (and successfully completed the probationary period). The totality of the individual’s law enforcement training and work experience will be considered.
  • Work schedule for patrol is currently 8.25 hours per shift; 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 2 days off. 

APPLICANT SCREENING PROCESS

The entire process may include an oral interview, polygraph, psychological test, medical exam, and any other exams deemed necessary by the Police Department.

This screening process is based strictly on the excellence of the candidate and their specific qualifications as well as the hiring needs of the Department at the time of review.  The Village does not guarantee an interview or further consideration once an application has been submitted.
