Deputy Chief Cooney Graduates FBI National Academy

Congratulations to Deputy Chief Timothy Cooney on his graduation from the FBI National Academy on Sept 17th! DC Cooney was one of 264 Officers from the United States and from multiple countries in the 299th session of the National Academy (NA).

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the NA offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training at the FBI’s training facility in Quantico VA. On average, these Officers have an average of 21 years of law enforcement experience to share and grow together during this course. FBI Academy instructors, special agents, and staff with advanced degrees provide the training with many of the instructors having been recognized internationally in the fields. Since 1972, National Academy students have been able to earn undergraduate and graduate level credits from the University of Virginia, which accredits many of the courses offered. DC Cooney, though he already has his masters degree, earned an additional 18 credits to consider towards his next masters degree!

FBI Director Kash Patel delivered the remarks at the ceremony which included the introduction of Shaquille O’Neal as a guest host and honorary graduate into the NA and class 299.

A total of more than 57,000 graduates have completed this training since it began in 1935 but these graduates now including DC Cooney only represent 1% of 1% of all law enforcement.

As DC Cooney takes the long drive home today, we look forward to his return and look forward to what he is bringing back to better our agency and our community.
