The Village of Algonquin is developing a Bikeway Gap Plan to identify missing links in the existing bicycle and pedestrian network and create a practical framework for improving connectivity throughout the community.

The plan focuses on completing gaps between neighborhoods, parks, schools, downtown, commercial areas, and existing regional and local trails so the system functions more like a connected network and less like a series of standalone segments.

Building on the Village’s broader planning efforts, the Bikeway Gap Plan will help guide future decisions related to bikeway connections, crossing improvements, facility continuity, and coordination with county, state, and private partners as opportunities arise.

Get Involved

The Village is inviting residents to help shape the Bikeway Gap Plan by participating in the public survey. Feedback will help identify where the current network works well, where gaps make travel more difficult, and which future connections would provide the greatest benefit.

The survey asks about comfort using the current bike network, signage and wayfinding, desired destinations, difficult crossings, major barriers, and which bikeway connections should be the Village’s highest priorities.

How comfortable do you feel using the current bike network for your regular trips, and what parts of the network work especially well for you today?
How easy is it to understand where bikeways are located today, including signage and wayfinding between routes?
Which destinations would you most like connected to your neighborhood by bikeways, and what additional trips would those connections support?
Where would new crossings or short connections most improve your ability to continue biking along your routes?
Where do you experience the biggest barriers when biking, such as busy roads, gaps between routes, or limited crossing opportunities?
Which bikeway connections should be the Village’s highest priority to add next, including the single most important connection you would like to see completed?
