Algonquin Named Tree City USA for 29th Consecutive Year The Village of Algonquin has been named a Tree City USA community for the 29th year in a row and has also received its fourth consecutive Growth Award from the Arbor Day Foundation. These recognitions highlight the Village’s commitment to responsible urban forestry, with over 22,500 trees maintained in 2024 and 342 new trees planted. This year’s Arbor Day celebration included a ceremonial tree planting with students at Eastview Elementary School.
Lions Armstrong Memorial Pool Opens May 31 Lions Armstrong Memorial Pool opens for the season on Friday, May 31! Purchase your season pass by May 30 to receive Early Bird pricing. Passes are available online or at Village Hall. Swim lessons for all ages and skill levels are also available.
Algonquin Receives Award for Financial Reporting For the 21st consecutive year, the Village of Algonquin has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). This honor reflects the Village’s ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence in financial management. The award is one of three components of the GFOA’s Triple Crown distinction.
Broadsmore & Stonegate Phase 2 Improvements The Broadsmore & Stonegate Phase 2 Project is underway and includes roadway reconstruction, utility work, new bike lanes, and a multi-use path. Sidewalk, curb, and paving work will continue through July.
Village Offices Closed | May 26 The Ganek Municipal Center and Public Works Facility will be closed on Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day. Groot refuse, recycling, and yard waste collection will be delayed by one day that week.
Document Shredding Event | May 31 The Village, in partnership with Groot, will host a free document shredding event on Saturday, May 31, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Public Works Facility (110 Mitchard Way). Residents may bring up to eight banker boxes of paper or folders (no binders). Proof of residency is required.
Randall Road Stage 2 Improvements The McHenry County Division of Transportation has begun Stage 2 of the Randall Road Corridor Improvements Project, located just north of Algonquin in Lake in the Hills and Crystal Lake. Improvements include widening Randall Road to three lanes in each direction, adding turn lanes, replacing bridges, rerouting a tributary, and installing new sidewalks, a multi-use path, and a decorative noise wall.

Village Budget Approved for Fiscal Year 2025-2026 The Village Board unanimously approved the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Budget on April 15. The $85.0 million budget includes $29.2 million in capital improvements and is available online or at the Ganek Municipal Center.

Street Sweeping Schedule The Village of Algonquin contracts with Lakeshore Recycling Systems to provide street sweeping in residential areas and the Old Town district from March through November. This service helps keep streets clean and reduces pollutants entering the drainage system. Please note that street sweeping is not intended to remove leaf piles placed in the street.
