HOURS PER WEEK: Part Time/Seasonal, but may be scheduled for up to 40 hours per week, including nights and weekends.
Hey high school and college students - looking for a fun and exciting summer job? The Village of Algonquin is hiring for the position of Lifeguard/Swim Instructor at the Lions Armstrong Memorial Pool, and we want YOU to join our team! This part-time, seasonal gig is perfect if you love working with people and want to spend your summer by the pool.
You’ll be responsible for providing top-notch customer service while keeping everyone safe and having fun. As a lifeguard and swim instructor, you’ll use preventative lifeguarding techniques, teach group and individual swim lessons, administer first aid when needed, and assist with Guest Services. JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education: Must have a High School Diploma (or currently enrolled). Computer and financial training, StarGuard Lifeguard Certification, Starfish Swim Instructor Training/Certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED), or equivalent certifications is required prior to the start of the pool season. Must be at least 15 years of age.
Skills: Must have strong swimming, communication, and problem-solving skills. You should be able to give clear, professional, and enthusiastic instructions while interacting with guests, parents, and staff. Whether in-person, over the phone, or through email, you’ll need to be comfortable working with people and building positive relationships. You should be able to handle situations with maturity and keep things in perspective, even when things get tough. Experience with lifeguard duties, kids, customer service, and using computers is a plus, but most importantly, we want someone who’s friendly, approachable, and ready to help.
Lifeguard and Swim Instructor training will be provided on specific dates and must be attended in order to work. Successful completion of both the Lifeguard and Swim Instructor certification is mandatory for the position.
