Canterbury Townhomes Resurfacing Project
Project Overview
The Canterbury Townhomes Resurfacing Project is part of the Village’s 2025 Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) Pavement Management Program. The project focuses on restoring deteriorated roadway conditions, enhancing pedestrian accessibility, and improving stormwater and underground utilities within the subdivision. In addition, the contract includes supplemental surface and path patching at various locations throughout the Village.
Why this Project is Needed
Roadways and supporting infrastructure within the Canterbury Townhomes subdivision have experienced deterioration over time. This project addresses pavement condition, drainage performance, and pedestrian accessibility to extend pavement life, improve safety, and reduce long-term maintenance needs.
Scope of Work
Major components of the project include:
- Roadway Resurfacing and Rehabilitation
- Milling and overlay of approximately 1.3 miles of local streets to improve ride quality and extend pavement life
- Pavement patching in structurally compromised areas prior to resurfacing
- Pedestrian and ADA Improvements
- Upgrades to sidewalk crossings to meet current ADA standards
- Sidewalk and driveway apron repairs when needed to improve accessibility and safety
- Curb and gutter removal and replacement throughout the subdivision as required
- Utility and Drainage Enhancements
- Underground utility repairs to improve street drainage and long-term performance
- Storm sewer replacements and rehabilitation where deficiencies are identified through pre-construction evaluations
- Additional Improvements
- Multi-use path patching in select areas to enhance pedestrian and bicycle access
- Surface patching on other Village streets as part of a cost-efficient bundled contract
Anticipated Timeline
Construction activities began in September and are nearing completion. Key milestones include:
- September: Curb and gutter, sidewalk, and driveway apron removal and replacement, along with underground utility repairs (complete)
- Late September – Mid-October: Milling and overlay of approximately 1.3 miles of roadway and multi-use path repairs (complete)
- Mid/Late October: Pavement markings and landscape restoration (ongoing)
This schedule is subject to change based on weather and field conditions
Impact During Construction
Residents may experience temporary driveway access restrictions, construction noise, and limited on-street parking during active work. In some cases, underground utility repairs may require short-term interruptions to water service. When necessary, residents will receive advance notice 24–48 hours prior to any service disruption.
