Algonquin Community Survey Shows Strong Quality of Life, Village Services
The Village of Algonquin presented results from its 2025 Community Survey at the January 13 Committee of the Whole meeting, offering insight into resident perceptions of quality of life, service quality, and the importance of Village programs and services. The annual survey provides statistically reliable feedback to track trends over time, evaluate performance, and inform future planning and budget decisions.
The 2025 survey was mailed to a random sample of 1,750 households, with 246 responses received, representing a 14.1% response rate. Results are reported as the percentage of respondents rating services as “Excellent” or “Good.”
Quality of life
Survey results show continued confidence in Algonquin as a place to live. More than 90% of respondents rated Algonquin and their neighborhood as a great place to live and raise children, with residents rating the Village more favorably than peer communities at the highest level recorded since 2015.
Residents also expressed a strong willingness to recommend living in Algonquin, reflected in a Net Promoter Score of 47, well above typical scores for local government and comparable to highly rated private-sector organizations.
These local perceptions align with recent national recognition. In 2025, WalletHub named Algonquin one of the Best Small Cities in America, placing the community in the 98th percentile nationwide and ranking among the highest-performing communities in Illinois for overall livability.
Service quality
In 2025, four out of five residents rated most core Village services positively. Consistently strong ratings were reported across major service areas, including general services, parks and recreation, police and public safety, public works and infrastructure, and community development. Residents also rated their most recent interactions with Village staff highly for knowledgeability, responsiveness, courteousness, and overall quality, reflecting positive experiences across departments.
Service importance and priorities
In addition to service quality, the survey asked residents to identify which services they consider most important. Drinking water, street and sidewalk maintenance, recreation facilities and programs, public safety, and economic development were among the highest-priority services identified.
Survey feedback indicates that while many services are performing well, residents continue to place high importance on infrastructure investment, safety, and recreation amenities as key contributors to overall quality of life.
“This survey helps us understand not only how we’re performing, but what matters most to our residents,” said Village President Debby Sosine. “The results reinforce the importance of listening, measuring progress, and making thoughtful decisions that support Algonquin’s quality of life.”
Using the results
Village staff use the Community Survey to inform a data-driven approach to budgeting, service delivery, and long-term planning. Identified priorities are incorporated into the annual budget process and help guide investments in infrastructure, facilities, programs, and other core services.
