The Village of Algonquin, IL

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has announced that the Village of Algonquin has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its Fiscal Year 2025–2026 Budget. This marks the twenty-second consecutive year the Village has earned this recognition.

To receive the award, government entities must meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. This distinction reflects the Village’s ongoing commitment to the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and fiscal stewardship.

“The Village’s annual budget guides our decisions, provides quality services, and helps us plan responsibly for the future,” said Village President Debby Sosine. “We’re proud to meet these high standards year after year for our residents and the entire community.”

Last year, Algonquin was one of 82 municipalities in Illinois recognized through the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award program. In 2023, the Village was also one of just 403 governments nationwide to earn the GFOA’s prestigious Triple Crown designation, which recognizes entities that receive awards for budget presentation, financial reporting, and popular annual financial reporting. Each award certifies that the Village’s financial documents meet nationally recognized standards for clarity, transparency, and quality.

The Fiscal Year 2025–2026 Budget is a balanced $85.0 million financial plan, maintaining a historically low property tax rate and an approved capital improvement program that includes $120.0 million in capital infrastructure investments over the next five years.
