Algonquin Unveils Final Master Plan for Willoughby Farms Park

The Village of Algonquin is excited to announce the adoption of the Final Master Plan for Willoughby Farms Park. This comprehensive redevelopment vision transforms the beloved 12-acre park into a vibrant and inclusive recreational space for all ages.

Located at 2001 Wynnfield Drive, Willoughby Farms Park was originally developed in 1996 and has long served as a community hub. Recognizing that many of the park’s amenities have reached the end of their useful life, the Village partnered with JSD Professional Services, Inc. to develop a long-term plan that reflects community priorities and modern recreational trends.

Key features of the revitalized park include:

  • Four new pickleball courts
  • A nature-themed creative play area and zip-line
  • A multi-generational gathering plaza with interactive water features
  • A restroom building and shaded pergola with swings
  • A multi-use sports court for basketball, badminton, and futsal
  • Expanded parking and improved pedestrian paths
  • Boardwalk access, fishing stations, and new native planting areas
  • Enhanced shoreline habitat to support local ecology

“This plan represents a shared vision shaped by robust community engagement,” said Village President Debby Sosine. “From residents to students to local stakeholders, we heard thoughtful feedback that helped guide this exciting transformation.”

Over several months, the planning process included community open houses, online surveys, student brainstorming sessions at Westfield Community School, and targeted focus groups. The resulting master plan reflects a strong consensus for improved play spaces, water features, sports facilities, and nature-focused enhancements.

The project’s estimated cost is $4.8 million, including design, permitting, and contingency. The Village will pursue phased implementation and explore grant opportunities to support funding.
