The Village of Algonquin is proud to announce it has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). This marks the 21st consecutive year the Village has received this prestigious recognition.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. It represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management, demonstrating a commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence in financial reporting.

The ACFR, which serves as the Village’s annual financial audit, presents a thorough and detailed account of the Village’s financial condition. The report includes an overview of financial activities, long-term obligations, and the overall fiscal health of the organization, and is intended to provide residents and stakeholders with clear, comprehensive financial information.

Last year, 148 municipalities in Illinois, including Algonquin, received this recognition. The Village’s ACFR was reviewed by an impartial panel and met the program’s rigorous standards, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and encourage public engagement.

This award is also one of three recognitions required to achieve GFOA’s Triple Crown—a distinction that highlights governments that have demonstrated excellence in financial reporting, budget presentation, and popular financial communication.
