Event Description:

On Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Algonquin Police Department, in collaboration with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, will offer the community an opportunity to safely dispose of potentially dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription medications.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a critical public safety and health issue. The 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health revealed that 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives. The survey also indicated that the majority of misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

Please note, we do not accept needles, ointments, or liquids, nor do we accept illicit drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamines, etc. Expired and unused prescriptions are acceptable if they are in their original bottles or baggies.

The DEA’s Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. Learn more at https://www.dea.gov/takebackday.
