| New Cell Phone Laws Effective January 1 |
|
On January 1, 2010, two new State laws will go into effect regulating the use of cell phones and smart phones while driving. House Bill 71 prohibits individuals from using cell/smart phones to compose, send, or read an electronic message while operating a motor vehicle on a roadway. Additionally, House Bill 72 prohibits the use of a cell/smart phone while driving through a school or construction speed zone.

The Village of Algonquin Village Hall and Public Works Facility will be closed on Thursday, December 24 and Friday, December 25. Refuse and recycling collection will be delayed by one day for Friday routes only, with collection occurring on Saturday. Village offices will also be closed on Friday, January 1, 2010. Refuse and recycling collection will be delayed by one day, with collection occurring on Saturday, January 2, 2010.

| 2009-2010 Bicycle Rack Art Contest |
|
The Village of Algonquin announces a call for artists to participate in its new bicycle rack art contest. In an effort to promote cycling, additional bicycle racks need to be installed in commercial areas and parks. The Village decided to combine this goal with an art competition to create unique bicycle racks for the Village.
