Village Launches Social Media Applications back
Date of Record: September 16, 2010

The Village of Algonquin is pleased to announce its presence on Facebook, Twitter, and Nixle. Elected officials and staff see this as an effective way to communicate Village news and information to the public.

Facebook is a popular social networking site that will be used to promote Village activities, programs, projects and events. Twitter is a blogging tool that will also be used to communicate short, time-sensitive information to the public. Enrollment in both of these services is free.

Nixle is a notification system which will be used primarily for public safety alerts. This information is available through SMS text messaging and by web/e-mail. There is no cost to enroll in this service; however, messaging and data rates by user's wireless service provider may apply.

These services are designed to supplement existing Village communications in a timely manner. The Village of Algonquin web site remains the primary source for Village information on the Internet. Users may sign up for these social media applications through Facebook, Twitter, or Nixle directly or at www.algonquin.org.
