| Frequently Asked Questions |
Q: Why is Hanson Road being reconstructed?
A: Hanson Road, in its current form, was constructed as a rural roadway that has far outlived its usefulness. To reduce the escalating maintenance costs, the Village is reconstructing the road as an modern urban roadway. This new roadway will better manage the storm water flow, traffic, and pedestrian safety along Hanson Road. In order for a full reconstruction to be completed in an efficient, safe, and economical way, the existing road must be closed to traffic during construction.
Q: How is the project being paid for?
A: The project was awarded to Curran Contracting Company for approximately $2.5 million. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will share a portion of the construction cost with the Village of Algonquin. The Village worked diligently with the design firm and engineer of record to receive the funding for the project, and is elated to bring the citizens of Algonquin a high quality project of this magnitude.
Q: Why does Hanson Road have to be closed for several months?
A: The Hanson Road reconstruction project is receiving funding from IDOT. Accordingly, the Village must honor the contract stipulations that accompany this funding, including project start date and the total number of working days. The project schedule takes into account weather conditions, especially over the winter months, to determine an estimated completion date. Village staff has been working with the contractor to expedite the project for completion ahead of schedule. The road closure is necessary to accelerate construction and for the safety of the construction crews and general traveling public.
Q: How is the project being divided up?
A: In order to keep the road closures at a minimum, this project currently has two phases. Phase 1 takes place from Edgewood Drive north Huntington Drive. Phase 2 will take place from Huntington Drive to approximately 300 feet north on Hanson Road. The Village is working with the construction contractor to determine the feasibility of adding a third phase in which a section of Phase 1 could be opened prior to the entire Phase 1 completion.
Q: How can I stay informed of construction progress on Hanson Road?
