The patrol division provides around the clock protection and police services. Patrol operations fall under the Operations Division and functions under the authority of the Deputy Chief of Operations. Patrol shifts are supervised and directed by three teams of supervisors that are separated into three shifts. Each supervisory team consists of two Sergeants.

Patrol responsibilities are many, but the primary functions include responding to calls of an emergency and non-emergency nature, the enforcement of criminal laws and Village ordinances, the enforcement of traffic laws and the investigations of traffic crashes, the preliminary investigation of criminal acts, offenses and incidents and traffic direction.

The Patrol Division is the largest unit in the department and consists of patrol officers, traffic unit officers and community service officers. These officers provide basic enforcement and service functions, and some have additional specialty training and responsibilities. These specialties include accident investigators, canine officer, field- training-officers, juvenile officers, evidence technicians, bicycle patrol officers and gang officers.

The department is very proud of our patrol division. The men and women who serve in this division are dedicated, hard working employees.
