Internal Services Crew
Our Internal Services Crew

Internal Services Division is a group of technical personnel who focus on the repair and maintenance of over 300 pieces of fleet equipment and the shared responsibility of nearly 30 facilities throughout the Village of Algonquin.

PW facility

The personnel within this division specialize in various aspects of expertise to facilitate the uninterrupted operation of these fleets and facilities.  Internal Services also strive to vigorously support the Village of Algonquin efforts to operate in a more environmentally conscious manner by reducing energy use in both Fleet and Facilities.  This is accomplished by Fleet Division a variety of ways that range from the use of biofuels, oil sampling programs, deliberate purchasing of low V.O.C products, GPS tracking of vehicle service needs, software driven fuel island, vehicle replacement plan and other strategies.

Every aspect of our operation incorporates efficient use of technology to optimize manpower and standards of operation.  Software driven maintenance scheduling is used to maintain fleet and facilities maintenance schedules as well as electronic service requests for repair needs.  Communication of vehicle as well as facility status is constantly updated via internal Village of Algonquin networks that communicate when system statuses are out of range.  Many conditions can be corrected remotely reducing man hours, fuel costs and vehicle expense.

Clean Air Counts

Routine maintenance for fleets and facilities is handled via software that track detailed information about assets.  Additional requests for repair work can be made from Department liaisons via electronic service request format.  This process also uses software (upper left) that automatically track the request through to the completion.  Data is automatically entered and sorted allowing for detailed information and records to be kept about fleet and facilities.

making bio-diesal

Fleet personnel take advantage of waste vegetable oil, supplied by local restaurants as well as residents, by turning it into fuel for our diesel equipment.  The system pictured above was recently put together by Fleet personnel to nearly eliminate any associated man hours needed to facilitate this process.  Annually between 2,000 and 4,000 gallons are used to reduce dependency on conventional Diesel fuels.

FACILITIES TEAM

Our Facilities team holds certifications and has received training in Boiler operations, Certified Pool operations, Pesticide application, Commercial Electrical, Infra Red Buildings analysis, Infra Red equipment analysis and other courses aimed at preventing facility system failures and improving the efficient use of energy at all of our sites.  Images below demonstrate the data used by buildings personnel to assess equipment condition.

Generator work

A.S.E. Certified Fleet personnel use cranes to do major component replacement at well house generator sites

On the Facilities side personnel use Thermal Imaging to analyze and reduce building envelope energy loss, identify parasitic consumption of energy as well as the implementation of various strategies designed to improve the heating and cooling cycles of our facilities.  This is accomplished with various facility controls software at some locations.
