Jeffery Sutrick
2200 Harnish Drive
Algonquin, IL 60102

The Algonquin Police Traffic Safety Unit is responsible for the enforcement of traffic and truck regulations designed to facilitate the smooth flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic throughout the Village. To accomplish this, the Unit conducts selective enforcement programs that target speeding, aggressive driving, DUI enforcement and seatbelt compliance for both adults and children. The Unit is managed by Sergeant Jeffery Sutrick and has two full-time uniformed officers along with several other part-time personnel.

The Traffic Safety Unit officers enforce speed zones on all roadways using the most up to date technologies. The unit also participates in the national "Click or Ticket" campaigns which focuses on ensuring that all vehicle occupants are wearing their seat belts. This program includes enforcement zones specifically designed at those who violate the law. The Unit also enforces truck weight limits to protect the structural integrity of bridges and roads throughout the Village of Algonquin.

In addition to the traffic duties, this unit conducts roadway surveys to determine the need for new speed limits, stop signs or traffic signals. They also work with construction engineers to design safe traffic flow plans for new construction or remodeling efforts in all areas.

Just as important as the duties mentioned above are the educational programs provided by the traffic safety unit. The unit conducts regular instructional classes on the hazards of driving impaired, the benefits of wearing seat belts and the proper installation of child safety seats. Additionally, the "Buckle Up America" and Traffic Safety Blitzes round out the units programs.

The primary goal of the Traffic Safety Unit is to reduce the crashes and the resultant injuries within the Village of Algonquin. During the past five years this Unit has been received several state and national awards for accomplishing this goal. The Traffic Safety Unit was the national winner of the "Traffic Safety Challenge" in 2002 and also placed 3rd in 2004. This unit has also had a first place finish in the state challenge along with two second place finishes.
