Earth Day

Inset: Village of Algonquin Public Works representatives at McHenry County College's 3rd annual Earth Day celebration in April, 2002The first Earth Day in 1970, the vision of Former Senator Gaylord Nelson, was a milestone in human history. Twenty million people participated in demonstrations across the country and helped prompt the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency, the Clean Water Act and the Clean Air Act. Free Mulch Dispersion

Mulching is an excellent practice to maintain optimal tree and shrub health and if done properly, can be very beneficial. Mulch recreates the "forest floor," providing nutrients, water retention, eliminates competition with grass and other plants, protects the tree from mower and weed trimmer damage, and regulates soil temperature.

Free mulch is offered all year round to Village residents through the Village of Algonquin's Public Works Department. Residents may stop by anytime and provide their own pick-up for the service. Please call Village of Algonquin Public Works at 847-658-2754 for more information on this free service.
